Angela D. Reddix is the founder of ARDX, a healthcare and IT consulting company, the creator of Envision Lead Grow, founder of The Mustard Seed Place, a real estate developer, mentor, educator, author, mother, and wife. Her primary goal is to inspire women and girls to create a successful future for themselves, and to leave a legacy for future generations.
Her mornings begin with intention and personal discipline—grounded in her faith. Here’s how this serial entrepreneur prepares to tackle her demanding day.
Grounded in Gratitude
Each morning, I start my day with a heartfelt prayer, giving thanks to my heavenly Father. I ground myself in gratitude. Before my feet touch the floor, I give thanks for the privilege of being alive, and I set intentions for the things I wish to accomplish during the day. I attribute my achievements to my faith. It’s guided me through both challenges and triumphs. This faith inspired me to open The Mustard Seed Place, a haven for women and girls designed to cultivate growth, to empower and to foster community.
Then I select a scripture inspired by the intentions I’ve set for the day and I write in my journal. There’s something cathartic about translating God’s words into practical application. For this, I prefer old fashioned pen and paper to activate the mind and body connection without distractions. The effort required to write allows the words to really become ingrained in my heart and mind.

Love My Body
My least favorite class in school was physical education. For years, I didn’t enjoy running, jumping or climbing but my life is a testament to the fact that opposites attract, because 30 years ago I married a fitness fanatic. Mr. Reddix encouraged me to embrace exercise. When I turned 40, it became clear that my metabolism was slowing down and exercise was no longer an option, but a requirement.
While I enjoy variety, my absolute favorite form of exercise is a rigorous 3 to 5 mile walk/run in nature. And it’s all the more enjoyable when I can share that time with Mr. Reddix. During these walks, we share our dreams and plans, and discuss challenges we may be facing. This serves as a catalyst for tackling what’s ahead in the day. Our partnership lightens the load.
Self-Care Ritual
Lately, I’ve embraced the silence of being an empty nester. After 28 years of school pick-ups and drop-offs, I now have time to enjoy simple things like treating myself to a long hot shower and enjoying aromatherapy. It’s relaxing and peaceful. I take time to apply makeup, style my hair, and select the outfits that fit the day’s itinerary. I listen to uplifting music to set the mood for the day. The simple act of organizing my exterior allows me to approach my day with confidence, and comfort.
Cruising with Intention
Whether my day starts in Norfolk at the ARDX Headquarters, or in Portsmouth at The Mustard Seed Place, I spend most mornings driving to work in silence, reflecting upon the day’s mission. But sometimes, I’ll spend the morning connecting with family or friends by phone. Before exiting my car, I recite this mantra, “If you can use anything Lord, you can use me. If you can use anything Lord, you can use me. Take my hands Lord and my feet, touch my heart Lord, speak through me. If you can use anything Lord, you can use me.” So whatever tests I may face during the day, I’ll use them as an opportunity to learn, and to extend grace.
Command Central
I juggle multiple roles and I depend upon my fabulous staff to ensure that I have the information I need. Every morning, my Chief of Staff provides me with my agenda: meetings, upcoming deadlines or scheduling conflicts. If company leadership is aware of any organizational challenges, they’re given time to brief me. During the first hour, I attempt to get through as many emails as possible and I create my “conquer list.” This directs my day but I know all too well that some things may get delegated or postponed.
Current Affairs
Federal healthcare policy is as at the heart of ARDX, so I spend about an hour each morning taking note of political trends and current affairs that could influence healthcare policy. It’s imperative to stay up-to-date to remain relevant in the Federal Government Contracting arena, healthcare industry and entrepreneurial space.
That’s how mindfulness and intentionality support purpose and productivity!
