Clean Cut Woodworks
Custom Heirloom Quality Furniture
Imagine. Design. Realize. In Ben Bartholomew’s Chesapeake woodworking shop, even the workbenches and tool chests are custom-built things of beauty. Bartholomew specializes in the creation of bespoke, heirloom quality furniture pieces that will last for generations. After a long career in the Marine Corp, he became inspired by memories of his grandfather’s humble, craft-oriented wood shop and began a years-long study of advanced woodworking techniques, learning from master craftspersons until he became a master himself. Bartholomew takes the art of dovetail joinery, interlocking tenons, wood finishing and custom detailing to a ridiculously high level. From walnut and cherry chests of drawers and writing desks, to fly tying caddies and coffee tables, each handcrafted, commissioned project is designed to “warm both the space it occupies, and the heart of the soul who imagined it.” Want to hone your own woodworking skills? Bartholomew also teaches dovetail classes at Woodcraft of Virginia Beach/Norfolk.

Jars of Dust
Pottery Shop and Studio, Handcrafted Ceramics
English textile designer William Morris famously said: “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” Artist, potter and company founder Mallorie Terranova designs and crafts pottery collections that convey a sense of calm and quiet beauty. The refined yet highly functional pieces are glazed in matte finishes inspired by the natural world, and the neutral core colors are carefully selected to complement almost any style. Every year, Terranova adds two additional, limited-edition glazes to honor the changing seasons and they harmonize beautifully with existing customer collections. The studio offers hand-thrown tableware, hand-built kitchen accessories, and a range of affordable items that make thoughtful gifts. The items are food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. Since the impact of the pandemic on public gatherings has waned, the studio’s numerous pottery classes are now in full swing. You can sign up on the Jars of Dust website or purchase a gift certificate for a crafty friend. No prior experience required.
