VisitNorfolk Unveils Remodeled Visitor Center

by CoVaBizMag

On Friday, Nov. 15, Norfolk’s East Main Street was bustling with media, locals and city officials eager to catch a glimpse of the newly renovated Visitor Center. VisitNorfolk recruited the expertise of local architect Michael Schnekser of Tymoff + Moss Architects to construct the open concept and traveler-friendly space.

“Studies have shown that Visitor Information Centers remain one of the most significant ways for us to connect with travelers while in the destination,” says President & CEO of VisitNorfolk Kurt Krause. “We welcome an average of 2.7 million visitors to Norfolk each year and wanted to create a space that reflected the wonderful amenities our city offers.”

The Visitor Center is particularly rich in amenity suggestions as dozens of brochures line a glass case at the entrance, connecting travelers with Norfolk’s premier shopping, dining, recreation, history and art destinations. The vibrant space boasts a host of other features as well, including a media wall that highlights the best of Norfolk, a charging bar, lounge seating area and a Mermaid Market vending unique souvenirs. For camera savvy visitors, snap a picture in front of the center’s colorful Norfolk mural painted by local artist Carl Floyd Medley III.

The VisitNorfolk Tourist Information Center is located at 232 East Main St., Norfolk and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
