Millennial on the Move Will Holt

Someone who keeps you motivated?

My family. After losing several close friends and family members recently at young ages, I want to cherish every moment God gives me on this earth. I just want my daughters to be able to do whatever they want in this world and know how much I love them.

Tell us about a recent accomplishment that you’re proud of.

Raising twin girls. They turn 3 in July, and every day is challenging and rewarding at the same time.

Most important aspect you look for in a workplace?

Respecting employees and allowing some autonomy in getting the job done.

What would you be doing if you weren’t in your current position?

I would love to be a stay-at-home dad (seriously).

What new idea or development are you most excited about in Coastal Virginia right now?

The growth in popularity and prominence of my alma mater, Christopher Newport University. It is truly a special place and is somehow still a hidden gem to many people.

What do you think is Coastal Virginia’s biggest challenge?

Raising the next generation of leaders during a time when it has become too easy to complain and fight rather than cooperate and make progress. But, I’m optimistic and I think we’re on the way to meeting this challenge.

Favorite place in Coastal Virginia to go on the weekends?

The Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach has become a new favorite for my wife and me when we get a rare chance to get away.

From his nomination:

“Will separates himself from others in his industry by providing excellent client service, including being available 24/7 via cell phone or text message, and frequently meeting with clients on weekends and in their homes or businesses. Will believes that strong personal connections with his clients are critical, especially the age of technology where personal relationships are sometimes lost.”
—William Van Buren, chairman of Kaufman & Canoles
