Earl Sanders, managing director of Sandman’s Auto Detailing, first became interested in a career in the industry during his youth. As a child, he helped his grandfather, who worked on cars as a hobby. Later, as a teenager, one of his first jobs was cleaning cars.
“The decision to go into this line of work was influenced by early experiences washing cars for money during childhood and in high school,” he says. “Being an entrepreneur is something I’ve had a great interest in over the last 15 years. I had ideas for coffee shops, carpet cleaning services, house cleaning services, towing and recovery, plus a few others, but detailing really resonated with me.”
Sanders launched his company, located at 7851 Azalea Garden Rd. in Norfolk, in August 2022. Sandman’s Auto Detailing offers an array of services for customers across Hampton Roads, including exterior and interior cleaning, waxing and polishing, as well as paint repair, odor and pet hair removal and headlight restoration. Sanders, who oversees a staff of four, prides himself on the company’s green practices.
“The company has adopted several eco-friendly initiatives to minimize its environmental impact, such as using biodegradable cleaning products and advanced water-saving techniques in every service,” he shares. “By prioritizing green methods, Sandman’s is not only contributing to a healthier planet but is also providing customers with products that are safe for their vehicles and the environment.”
His role runs the gamut from management of employees and facilities to customer relations and marketing, as well as compliance and safety.
“While being a managing director is certainly demanding, the position also offers a rewarding opportunity to grow a business, develop professional expertise, and make a tangible impact in the industry,” Sanders says. “Seeing happy customers and knowing that your company plays a role in making their vehicles look great can be very fulfilling.”
The business is also committed to community outreach through its involvement in organizations like Toys for Tots, Food Bank of South Hampton Roads and Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. Sandman’s Auto Detailing is also exploring a collaboration with Norfolk City Schools to support local educators.
“We’re passionate about making a positive impact and contributing to the well-being of those around us,” Sanders says. “The most fulfilling part of my business journey has been the incredible people I’ve had the privilege to serve and the amazing growth we’ve experienced together over the past two years. It’s truly exciting to see how far we’ve come and I’m genuinely grateful for each and every customer who has been a part of this rewarding adventure.”
Future goals include expanding his customer base by 30 percent over the next year, enhancing service offerings, with three more services to be rolled out within the next six months, and growing the company’s online presence, among others.
“Sandman’s Auto Detailing sets itself apart through an unwavering commitment to excellence in every service offered,” Sander says. “Each vehicle is treated with meticulous care and attention to detail, ensuring that every inch is thoroughly cleaned and polished to perfection. Whether it’s a basic wash or a comprehensive detailing package, clients can expect superior results tailored to protect and enhance the appearance of their vehicles.”
