Langley Hosts Virtual Food Drive for Virginia Peninsula Foodbank

by CoVaBizMag

Langley Federal Credit Union employees acted quickly to help the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank respond to an influx of requests for food and services, raising more than 2,100 items in less than one week.

On March 26, Langley For Families Foundation started an internal, virtual food drive through YouGiveGoods.com, which allows people to make monetary donations to purchase food supplies for the food bank. In the first four hours of the drive, employees donated more than 1,300 items totaling just over $4,000. It took less than a week to reach their goal of 2,000 items.

“We knew we wanted to help meet the need, but we couldn’t host a food drive in our branches because of safety concerns for our members and employees,” said Langley For Families Foundation director Laurel Ramey. “This virtual option was an easy, accessible way for our employees to step up, and we’re so proud that they did just that.”

The food will be delivered by YouGiveGoods.com within five days.
