Habitat for Humanity Provides Construction Assistance on Home for Gold Star Mother

by CoVaBizMag

A collection of volunteers from Habitat for Humanity South Hampton Roads (HSHR), the Hampton Roads REALTORS Association and the Chesapeake Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2894 came together on June 5 in Suffolk to repair the home of Carrie Caldwell, a Gold Star mother who lost her son during Operation Desert Storm.

HSHR “Red Hats,” a core of experienced volunteer builders, provided onsite supervisory assistance while volunteers completed repairs on the home, which included: removal and installation of new cabinets, dishwasher and counter tops; laid new flooring throughout the house; installed recessed can lights in the kitchen and replaced fixtures; painted the interior and exterior of the house; removed an awning, painted the roof and contributed to landscaping.
