What They Do: GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company), originally founded to insure government workers and military personnel, currently provides 16 million automobile policies to a wide range of customers.
How They Help: Through the GEICO Corporate Community Citizens program associates have participated in walks, fundraisers and other community service events that have benefited national causes and local charities for more than 20 years. In support of their associates' community service, GEICO matches 100 percent of the contributions they raise through the United Way Campaign. The company also supports more than 30 different charitable organizations in Coastal Virginia, including United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, USO and Armed Services YMCA.
This work has led to GEICO receiving the Corporate Volunteer Excellence Award from Volunteer Hampton Roads, Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award for diversity from the Urban League of Hampton Roads, CoVa BIZ Best Places to Work award from CoVa Biz Magazine, HEIDI Award from the Hampton Roads Diversity and Inclusion Consortium and several Best of the Beach awards from The Virginian-Pilot.
Through their associates' fundraising and the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation contributions, GEICO gives back more than $1 million per year to the Coastal Virginia community. More than 1100 associates volunteered more than 5,162 volunteer hours in Coastal Virginia in 2017.
To our company, community impact looks like: every associate caring, sharing and giving back in a way that uplifts and empowers those most in need.
