Workforce Development Partners Host Regional Healthcare Job Fair

by Ryan Miller

On June 8, the workforce development program Opportunity Inc. will join with the Peninsula Council for Workforce Development, Virginia Employment Commission, Job Assistance Center, LLC and Thomas Nelson Workforce Development to host the Regional Healthcare Job Fair. This job fair will give job seekers the opportunity to connect and network with over 30 healthcare employers. With Opportunity Inc.’s workforce development solutions, businesses are able to access eligible job seekers in search of suitable job openings and training opportunities.

Opportunity Inc.’s President and CEO Shawn Avery not only understands the benefits of collaborating with other workforce development organizations, but also sees the positive effect in the region’s workforce.

“Last year, we placed more than 50% of our job seekers into healthcare positions, and this event supports our continued efforts to meet employer demands in this growing industry cluster,” Avery said.

With the rapid growth in the healthcare industry, many organizations are being required to focus largely on attracting, retaining and managing quality talent. Community colleges, such as Tidewater Community College, Paul D. Camp Community College and Thomas Nelson Community College, now offer healthcare workforce training.

The fair will also offer education and veteran resources in addition to healthcare employers. Participating employers include: Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Veteran Affairs Medical Center and several others.

The Regional Healthcare Job Fair is free and will take place at 600 Butler Farm Road, Hampton Virginia at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center.
